Go or Die??

In the previous post, I have said that I chose the chess competition over the Olympiad Math competition. Today, from what my friend has told me, I am to be punished.

He said that I will have to pay RM12 for the entrance fee and get some demerit for it. What is going on here? Isn't that competition is personal based? What rights does he have to punish me just because I did not go during that day?

About the entrance fee, I have heard nothing about it before this. During the registration for the competition, I am not told that I need to pay for the entrance fee or anything about it. Now, the school insists that they have paid the entrance fee for me but I did not go, so I will have to return the money. I have not heard of any payment since the beginning of this thing, not even the fact that the school will pay for us. RM12 is not much, but the pride is. If we were not told that we need to pay if I did not go when registering, the school should have told us earlier and let us sign an agreement. There is no such agreement. I did not agreed that I will go no matter what happens. There is no parental agreement either. How can they ask us to give up everything and go just because they have registered our names?

I admit that I have some signature on some of the name lists, but that does not mean that I will surely go. I even told the person who was in duty to let us sign the name list that I might not go on that day. By right, after knowing the fact that I might not go, the school should have already taken some action. They should have warned me that I will have to pay back the money, but they did not. This is the problem. They are just trying to show that they have authority to claim money from the students with whatever reasons there are. On that day, there are only 1 call from my friend saying that I must go. I told him to tell the teacher in charge (stupid idiot bastard) that I am not going for the sake of another competition. No actions were taken by them either.

I really don't have any confidence in the Olympiad Math. I might not even get any placing there. However, in chess, I got the third. If he is saying that this is not as good as that one, then I suppose he wants us to participate in as many competition as possible, but not trying to win them. Either way, the marks that we get have got nothing to do with him, he still gets his salary even if we get 0 mark, maybe that will make his life even easier. For the marks, even though the participation might be national level, it is in the Persatuan category. I have 3 other national level participation marks for it already, and they can't be stacked up, only the highest will be used and they are all equally high, unless I win. I don't think I can win. Compared to that, with the third place in chess competition, I can fill up the achievement marks column for the club category.

Now, back to the punishment, am I really going to be demerit-ed? I hope not, because if it really happens, this means that the school is not using their brain. Has this thing has anything to do with my discipline? You can say that I am a coward for retreating, but you cannot say that I am not following the rules. I went for another activity, to be precise, school activity. I am still in school anyway. I cannot be considered as playing truant or anything else, I stayed in school until 12.30pm which is the end of CCA hours.

Now I might have to meet the teacher personally, to get scolded maybe. I might get demerit-ed but I will fight for my own rights. If I get demerit-ed for the reason that I am speaking out my reasons, then tell me, what else can I do besides feeling disappointed with the government for employing such a teacher?

50-50 Bet

Today I went to school with a mind knowing that I will have to make a choice between Olympiad Math or School Chess Competition.

Olympiad Math definitely can help me gain more marks in my cocurriculum grade, only if I win anything that can gain me marks. The participation is uncertain. Some say that it is district level and others national level. I wonder which one it really is. The participation marks is always planned to be given up as I have already signed up for the National Physics Quiz which is also a national level competition.

Chess competition, it is a competition which is only school level where the marks allocated is extremely low compared to the one in national level. It sounds poor right? I bet your are thinking that way, but wait till you read the whole passage. Although it is not that great, it has fewer competitors. There are 6 people participating all together. This means that I only have to beat 3 people in order to get the 3rd prize and get my marks.

My chess skill is not good, not as good as doing sciences and playing games. However, I have worse skill in answering Olympiad Math questions. I have done a little practice before. I cannot answer any of the questions. It is not hyperbolic, it is the truth. Try it and you will know. I have trained for 1 whole week for the chess competition before I get to know that the Olympiad Math falls on the same day as the chess competition. I even tried to get Ivan, Samuel and JinSiang's guide beforehand. So, should I give up the chess competition for the sake of the national level competition even I have done so many things to win in chess?

And the decision was - Chess Competition!! In the end I went for the chess competition. So far, I think that I have made the right choice. My score in the chess competition was as below,

1st Match : Draw (play till I nearly lose and he felt sienz to continue, so draw agreed)
2nd Match (against JinSiang) : Win (Yes, finally can win against him, even this might be the only time in my whole life...)
3rd Match (against Ivan) : Lose (too hiong...can't beat)
4th Match : Win (lucky I guess...)

If I am not mistaken, I might have the chance to win the 3rd prize, but I will need to wait for the actual confirmation by the competition committee. Hope that I can get the 3rd prize for the marks itself, not the medal/trophy and surely not the name.
